Looking to add a little whimsy to an otherwise boring space? I’ll show you five ways you can add charming, playful touches to any room of your home!
Don’t get me wrong-I love spring, I really do. The sounds of birds chirping as the sun warms the Earth, tiny buds shooting up from bare branches. But it just hasn’t held the same place in my heart as autumn does with it’s rich, vibrant colors and the smells of wood stoves carried through crisp morning air. Or winter, with the holidays kicking off a season of cozy hibernation. But this spring, this spring is different. I feel like I’m stepping back out into the world with with fresh eyes and an awakened spirit. I feel playful and lighthearted-joyous even. And I wanted to capture those feelings by adding touches of the season to a space that gets little attention yet is one of the most used rooms of our home. The bathroom.
here are five ways to add a little whimsy
something colorful in a fun pattern
The easiest way I’ve found to do this is with linens such as towels and curtains. This allows for changing things up when the mood strikes. I found this adorable bunny shower curtain shortly before Easter, and I loved it so much I decided to keep it up a little while longer.
This could be anything you wouldn’t normally find in the space, like this fluffy, faux fur rug. Or this collection of vintage hankies I hung from an old display meant for souvenir spoons.
something intended for a different purpose
I love finding alternative uses for items I have around the house, especially things that are usually kept tucked away, such as fine china. A pretty teacup or saucer can hold little soaps, or in my case, bath bombs. And look at this adorable pink stein I got at a local thrift store! It’s the perfect thing to hold my makeup brushes.
Items that carry fond memories and put a smile on my face when I see them are some of my most treasured things to display around my home. Here I have a little shelf with a framed card from the birth of my first child, my silver plated cup from my own childhood, and a rubber ducky belonging to my youngest. And this little bowl of shells comes from our honeymoon in St. Lucia.
something from the outdoors
Bringing nature indoors is a wonderful way to welcome the spring season. A fallen birch branch from my yard became the perfect inspiration for me to create a new way to hang our robes and towels. Of course, live plants and flowers are always a beautiful touch of nature as well. Ferns do exceptionally well with the added heat and humidity a bathroom often provides.
So there you have it! I hope I have given you a few ideas you may not have thought of before for your space. Thank you so much for stopping by to check out this new blog of mine!
